Career Background


Growing up in Tulsa, Oklahoma Jim Weaver excelled at photography winning awards from Eastman Kodak both in the field and in the darkroom working developing half tone negatives and line negatives from huge process cameras. These skills included burning the developed film onto ferrotype silver halide emulsion plates that were used for printing presses at that time in the early 1970's for Christian organizations. Jim's photography passions throughout the years became more enthralled with learning photography programs and Html programs. 

"I've always believed in hard work! I worked all over the United States, as a young man from Florida to Boston, Massachusetts, California and all parts in-between working as a painter part time and did a variety of several other things. In Missouri I worked for two years as a Diesel mechanic, Boston and Cambridge, Massachusetts 1 year as a vendor peddling a three wheel tricycle cart through the busy streets of Boston to Harvard Square selling Pretzels and Ice Cream when I was only 18. In Louisiana I took my diesel mechanic skills and became a registered merchant seaman on Crew boats and Tug boats for two years serving the oil-field industry in the Gulf of Mexico. I excelled and learned Loran A and Loran C navigational plotting skills and Radar navigation and moved up to engineer, then wheelman second mate. I can still plot an ocean chart with the best of the skippers today! I've worked as a roustabout on drilling platforms, I learned sandblasting and protective coating applications from my Father while growing up in Tulsa, Oklahoma and ran Weaver Sandblasting and Protective Coatings, Inc for two years where at that time my brother and I parted ways and we sold the business. Yes I'm even a Cowboy! I can still saddle up and ride a horse, I've mended barbed wire fences, hauled hay. I learned how to work hard as a young man. I can learn anything I set my mind too. 


The Painter


In college in the 70's, I made extra money as a Commercial and Industrial painter. I've always loved the Oregon coast and In 1985 I moved to Astoria, Oregon and took up painting full time as a registered contractor working on Victorians specializing in architectural renovation and custom lacquer woodwork finishing on new construction residential homes. If there's a stairway to heaven, I must have climbed it many times using 40 foot ladders on Victorians! My painting career I pursued for 20 years in Clatsop County and during 10 of these of years I came back to my basic photography interests in graphic arts and then web design after meeting my wife when the Internet came along.

As a paint contractor my company excelled, we painted all the beach front homes for clients Ron, Brad and Ed Tonkin of Tonkin automobiles. We painted the Flavel Museum carriage house in 2000 in Astoria for the Clatsop County Historical Society. I painted the personal coastal home of Steven McGeady the former Vice President of Intel Corporation. Steve McGeady found my painting website company online to do business. At the time, His name didn't register or ring a bell with me or anything so I said him,

"Sir, I don't know who you or what you do for a living but I'm fair with everyone, I'm curious what you do but I will ask you after I give you the bid, fair enough?" His response was, "Thanks Jim, rest assured I'm not an attorney!" "OK Fair enough!"

This single most important event forever confirmed my appreciation for the Internets capabilities and made me decide to learn more about the Internet. Steve McGeady gave my painting company a glowing letter of recommendation for the job we completed on his home. I scanned his certified letter of recommendation onto my painting website. These beach front homes and other historical society projects can be viewed on my painting website at www.weaverpainting.com. As a painter while working on Victorian homes I was simply taking a picture in my mind as to what the final image would be that would last for years to come. Many of my painted homes have stood the test of time for over 15 years after completion. I've simply carried this same passion into the new field of web design and online technology that I love.

It takes a considerable amount of time to learn how to use programs on the Internet, how to design in flash using Adobe Macromedia, how to create videos and audio (in all file formats) and how to upload info to a website making certain it works on all browser operating platforms. Being web designers since 1999 we've had to learn our lessons the hard way through online courses, browser research with Java & Java-scripting programs, being certain each browser out there operates our HTML and scripting code correctly. All corporations from Sun Micro-systems developing (Java) Netscape using (Javascript) and Microsoft needing constant hot patch fixes seem to be all coming together better today. However, even some of the new firewalls can interfere with programs on peoples computer systems too.
